Cloth Diapers are Better for the Environment
Reduce your Carbon Footprint on the Earth
The cloth diaper manufacturing process is much more natural than the process used to make disposables. Cloth diapers can be washed up to 200 times before they are used for rags. Our service uses machines that are certified energy effieient meaning less water and energy is wasted than laundering cloth on your own.
(See our FAQ section for more information on our washing process.)
Disposable diapers are single use, cloth diapers can be reused for up to 200 washes before they need to be recycled for use as rags.
The average baby will use 5000 to 7000 diapers in the first two years of life.1
Over four million disposable diapers are discarded in Canada PER DAY.1
1.7 billion disposable diapers enter Canadian landfills each year.2
Research suggests that disposables can take up to 500 years to decompose.2
Using a diaper genie for disposables mummifies diapers allowing them to sit in a dump for ETERNITY!3
Disposing solid human waste into dumps can easily spread disease through ground water. Waste in cloth diapers is properly treated as sewage.1
Over 300 pounds of wood, 50 pounds of petroleum feedstocks and 20 pounds of chlorine are used to produce disposable diapers for one baby EACH YEAR.4
"In Canada alone, diaper production consumes approximately 65,500 tonnes of pulp, 8,800 tonnes of plastic and 9,800 tonnes of packing material. However, the waste that results after they are used is an even bigger problem. Over the course of their first two to three years, each baby uses approximately 6000 diapers, which creates two and a half tonnes of waste per child."6
Disposable diapers are the third largest consumer waste item following newspapers and beverage containers.5
A Littile Lesson in Diaper History
Diapers have always been used in some form or another. They are a necessity until our children are old enough to potty train. Disposable diapers were invented during the baby boom and have been used on babies for almost 60 years. We are now realizing the traumatic effects that disposable diapers have on our environment. Think about how much damage has already been done to our planet! Let's all do our part to change the statistics and keep the world a safe place for our children.
